Our Score
Director Michel Gondry filters the masked crime-fighter's exploits through the slacker comedy idiom in this tiresome escapade. After his hated father's sudden death, playboy Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) inherits a media empire and eventually finds new purpose in life by teaming up with tech-wizard and martial arts expert Kato (Jay Chou) and becoming the Green Hornet. The pair's subsequent attempts at undercover heroism unwittingly threaten the underworld empire of fun villain Christoph Waltz. But moronic raunchiness, off-key humour and slapstick action are not a good fit in this overbearing re-imagining of the pulp hero. Gondry uses slow-motion "Kato-Vision", speeded-up footage and neat split-screen effects to add much needed style to the light-hearted romp. Yet in trying to be so cool, it becomes the complete opposite. "Everything before this has been crap", says Rogen during the explosive finale. Many will agree.

A wealthy playboy inherits a media empire when his father dies. Determined to do some good for a change, he uses his new-found fortune to become a masked crime-fighter. Aided by his chauffeur, who is a kung fu expert and a technical genius, he fights to bring down a powerful gangster. Comic-book adventure, starring Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz.
