Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The menace of Harold Pinter's script is marvellously sustained by director Michael Anderson in this espionage thriller. George Segal gives one of his finest performances as the secret agent investigating a neo-Nazi movement in 1960s Berlin. Alec Guinness and Max von Sydow are equally impressive as a British spy chief and his evil Nazi counterpart, while Senta Berger's ambiguous role in proceedings makes a nice change from the Bond girl archetype. John Barry's music-box score is also one of his best.
