Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Wesley Snipes plays the half-mortal, half-vampire who hunts down creatures of the night in this flashy and very violent action adventure based on the popular Marvel Comics character. Aided by his gruff-and-tough mentor (Kris Kristofferson), Blade sets out to thwart the evil schemes of a fellow vampire (Stephen Dorff), whose plans include running a nightclub that will supply humans for his fiendish pals to feed on. This is far-fetched stuff indeed, but Snipes looks great in leather, it's snappily paced and the performances are perfectly tongue in cheek. It spawned a fabulous sequel directed by Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro, though the less said about the third instalment, Blade: Trinity, the better.
