Our Score
Seann William Scott plays Doug, a dim but likeable bar bouncer whose fight skills land him the job of "enforcer" with the struggling local ice-hockey team. Doug can barely skate. But that's of little consequence in this knockabout comedy from director Michael Dowse (It's All Gone Pete Tong), co-written by Evan Goldberg (Superbad). Doug's job is just to protect the team's star scorer by knocking seven bells out of opposition enforcers (including old ice-hockey pro Liev Schreiber). Doug's a hit. Literally. Scott has matured both physically and as an actor since playing the sex-obsessed Stifler in the hit American Pie series and he's very likeable here. Very likeable, too, is the film itself which, despite its surface brutality, has an unexpectedly warm heart. Goon isn't a life-changer, but it is a pleasant little surprise.

Summary

An underachieving bouncer is the black sheep of a family of doctors, until he beats an ice hockey player in a fight, and is recruited by the team. While he has little sporting prowess, his ability to beat up opposing players leads him to a successful career - and a showdown with his equally violent hero. Comedy, starring Seann William Scott, Jay Baruchel and Liev Schreiber.
