Review

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Joel Schumacher directs Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman in this over-the-top and unintentionally daft addition to that well-worn film genre, the hostage drama. Cage plays a wheeler-dealer diamond broker, Kidman his wife. When a gang of vicious thugs breaks into their hi-tech home, what seems at first a straightforward robbery evolves into a complex discovery of personal dynamics, not only between members of the gang, but also between the gang and the couple themselves. Trespass is a hyper and hysterical riot of craziness, daft plot twists, pointless flashbacks, and characters so cardboard you could make cereal packets from them. But it's also entertaining in a stupid, turn-your-brain-off kind of way.
