Our Score
This is a case of near-faultless film-making from Bill Forsyth, who has never really fulfilled his early promise under the auspices of Hollywood. As director, he keeps a wry eye on the triangle linking school goalkeeper John Gordon-Sinclair (then Gordon John), centre forward Dee Hepburn and her pal Clare Grogan. But it is as scriptwriter that Forsyth excels, capturing the anxieties and insecurities of teen love and the language of the playground with consummate skill. He also creates a glorious array of secondary characters, including Robert Buchanan and William Greenlees as Sinclair's lovelorn mates, Allison Forster as the clued-up younger sister, and Chic Murray as the laconic headmaster.

Summary

A gawky teenager is dismayed to be relegated to goalkeeper in the school football team - but his thoughts turn to romance once he meets the female striker who takes his place. However, his awkward nature proves an obstacle to winning her over, despite the sage advice of his worldly-wise little sister. Comedy, starring John Gordon Sinclair, Dee Hepburn, Jake D'Arcy, Clare Grogan and Robert Buchanan.
