Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Two young adventurers set out to find a mythical floating castle in this fast-paced animated fantasy from Spirited Away director Hayao Miyazaki. Inspired by Gulliver's Travels - but with an apparent visual nod to HG Wells and Jules Verne - the engaging tale combines Miyazaki's trademark retro-futuristic styling with a thoughtful narrative that blends heart with humour. Every frame bursts with imagination and rich detail, as the duo have perilous encounters with sky pirates, government secret agents and a military megalomaniac. In the dubbed version, Anna Paquin and James Van Der Beek are not the most expressive lead voices, however the film's overall magic means that it scarcely matters.
