Our Score
Veteran director Herbert Wilcox bowed out of films with this undistinguished and wholly unconvincing slice-of-life drama, which was produced by his actress wife Anna Neagle. Frankie Vaughan stars as the homecoming sailor who is offered £1,000 reward by an eccentric tramp if he can honestly earn £100 within a week. Following stints as a bouncer, a boxer and a commissionaire, he finally makes good as a singer and meets sultry chanteuse Anne Heywood in the process. Anthony Newley cashes in on a showy supporting role and Vaughan scored a chart hit with the title song.
