Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

A comedy drama that isn't as comic as it thinks it is, nor as dramatic as it should be. Wilder stars as a novice rabbi sent to San Francisco and befriended by cowboy Harrison Ford on the way. There are some laughs to be had in the gaffes, but director Robert Aldrich - who made one of the great nuclear parables with Kiss Me Deadly (1955) - inserts some violent action sequences into the episodic plot that seem wildly out of kilter with what should have been a much gentler affair.
