The American Civil War may be over in this wagon-train western, but there's no peace for Union captain Bill Williams. Ordered to bring cattle up North from a Texas border town, the soldier-turned-trail boss is beset by a potent mix of renegade Apaches, marauding Mexican bandits and North-South resentment. Williams is not the most charismatic of heroes, but a supporting cast including Richard Jaeckel (as a bitter, one-armed Confederate) and Movita (soon to be Mrs Marlon Brando) as a spitfire señorita add some vim to this stolid B-movie feature. Fred F Sears (Earth vs the Flying Saucers), a versatile director of modestly budgeted genre fare, packs the brief running time with gun battles and punch-ups, and finishes with a showdown in the middle of a stampede.
