Our Score
Despite the exotic title and a great villain in Raymond Burr, this is a standard tale of ivory-seeking elephant hunters being stymied by the king of the jungle. Tarzan has less to do than usual, spending a good deal of the film in tied-up captivity, and director Kurt Neumann allows the pace to slacken too often before the climactic elephant stampede. The film's abrupt climax suggests production problems - producer Sol Lesser had already padded the film with scenes from explorer Frank Buck's 1934 film White Cargo. This was the fifth and final Tarzan film for Lex Barker, who later had an active career in Europe, including a role in La Dolce Vita and starring roles in a series of German westerns.

Summary

The jungle hero battles the evil plans of a female ivory poacher, whose henchmen have enslaved an African tribe. Tarzan's efforts to free the captives result in his being taken hostage himself - but he plots to defeat the criminals by joining forces with the elephants they prey on. Action adventure, starring Lex Barker, Monique Van Vooren and Raymond Burr.
