Review

Our Score
Adapted from the cult teen novel by SE Hinton (who crops up in a cameo), this was a conscious attempt by Francis Ford Coppola to do a small film after the excesses of Apocalypse Now. Unfortunately, his re-creation of the sights and sounds of 1960s Tulsa is more than a little ham-fisted, a situation not helped by some stilted dialogue and a ludicrously over-the-top score by his father Carmine. If you think the rivalry between the gangs looks authentic, it was because Coppola pampered the Socs and persecuted the Greasers throughout the shoot so that a genuine resentment built up between them.
