Our Score
The shifting group dynamics of a Second World War infantry squad are put under the psychological microscope, in director Keith Gordon's gripping morality play about the personal price exacted by battle. It's when the GIs meet some German soldiers, just back from the disastrous campaign on the Russian front, who simply want to surrender with honour and sit out the remaining days of the conflict in safety, that the main thrust of this insightful drama snaps into focus. Former actor Gordon gives his able young ensemble cast (including Peter Berg, Kevin Dillon, Ethan Hawke, Gary Sinise, Frank Whaley and Arye Gross) a chance to shine in a powerful tragedy full of surprises and visual style.
