Our Score
The grim grandeur of the Clyde shipyards provides the setting for this lacklustre melodrama which trades on the British docudramatic tradition while dealing in potboiling clichés. Having alienated his farming family by decamping to Glasgow, Gordon Jackson rises from engineer to designer at Jack Lambert's yard. But it still takes an act of reckless heroism on the eve of a prestigious launch to convince him Jackson is the right man for daughter, Rona Anderson. Dad's Army fans will be fascinated to learn that while John Laurie has a key supporting role, Arthur Lowe has to content himself with a cameo.
