Our Score
The classic children's fable about the fowl that thinks the sky is falling gets a spirited update in this Disney animated adventure. It's a playful family comedy with a cautionary centre, in which the diminutive Chicken Little (voiced by Scrubs star Zach Braff) is mocked by the other animal residents of Oakey Oaks for his mistake. However, the bird's paranoia eventually proves to be well founded when a War of the Worlds-style alien invasion begins. Like its main character, director Mark Dindal's film is desperate to be admired, and so ends up trying too hard on every level. The studio's first fully computer-generated animated feature is technically accomplished, but not in the innovative way that Pixar's Monsters, Inc was. The film's pop culture references will inevitably date, while manic yet flimsy characters simply draw attention to the unfocused plotline and uneven tone. As a colourful diversion for the under-nines the picture does its job, but without a strong script even its snazziest scenes are quickly forgotten.

Summary

When an acorn falls on a happy-go-lucky chicken's head he begins to panic and spreads the word that the sky is falling down, much to the amusement of the town's locals who are quick to prove him wrong. The little bird decides to keep his ideas to himself in future, only to hear warning of an alien invasion which could turn his prediction into reality. Disney animated adventure, with the voices of Zach Braff, Garry Marshall and Joan Cusack. Edited for flashing images.
