Our Score
The jokey theme song by the Scaffold sets the tone for horror director Vernon Sewell's final movie. More Carry On Bodysnatching than anything even loosely based on the true facts about the two Irish immigrants who sold dubiously procured cadavers to Dr Knox for his dissection classes at Edinburgh Medical College. With Knox (Harry Andrews) portrayed as a vulgar buffoon, Burke and Hare (Derren Nesbitt and Glynn Edwards) coming across as period Likely Lads instead of purveyors of corpses, and lots of time-wasting brothel scenes featuring copious female nudity (step forward B-movie starlets Yutte Stensgaard and Françoise Pascal), the accent is on sleazy sexploitation and bawdy comedy rather than anything truly macabre or frightening. Arguably the worst film adaptation of the exploits of the notorious West Port serial killers.

Two criminals go into business graverobbing, then selling the corpses to medical science - but soon turn to murder. Horror, starring Derren Nesbitt and Glynn Edwards.
