Our Score
"Look out, termites. It's squishing time." So says the titular self-made superhero of this low-key comedy drama that has much in common with fellow 2009 release Kick-Ass (ordinary citizen dons home-made costume to clear up crime). However, Woody Harrelson's good-hearted crime fighter Defendor is no lovestruck adolescent out to impress, but a delusional, emotionally damaged adult whose clottish attempts to cleanse the streets of crime bring more agony rather than ecstasy. Harrelson is a perfect fit for the role; gleefully utilising an oddball arsenal of weapons (marbles, lime juice, wasps) against the minions of a crime kingpin. The film has initial promise, but a lull in the pacing and a lack of a sizeable budget hamper things somewhat. That's despite the best efforts of a decent cast that includes Kat Dennings (Thor) as a feisty hooker and Sandra Oh (Grey's Anatomy) as a sympathetic therapist.

An everyday man suffering from delusions of grandeur creates a superhero persona for himself with the intention of taking down society's criminal underworld. However, with no special powers other than courage and determination, he begins to realise he is fighting an uphill battle. Action comedy, starring Woody Harrelson, Elias Koteas, Michael Kelly, Sandra Oh and Kat Dennings.
