Our Score
A movie about a lifetime relationship between two women makes a refreshing change, especially when it stars powerhouse Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey. They both make the most of their roles here as the grown-up friends from completely different backgrounds, who first meet as 11-year-olds (with The Big Bang Theory's Mayim Bialik in the Midler role) and, despite various setbacks, remain close over the years. Pretty Woman's Garry Marshall directs slickly and Hershey is very appealing as a poor little rich girl, but the movie belongs to the astonishing Midler, playing a brash, selfish singer. This drama is at its best when Midler gives free rein to her character rather than when it slips into schmaltz.

Brash child performer CC and rich girl Hillary become unlikely friends when they first meet at 11 years old. Years later they are still close, but Hillary, who is now a successful lawyer, is stricken with a terminal illness. CC goes to visit her and together they reflect on the highs and lows of their long, volatile relationship. Drama, starring Bette Midler, Barbara Hershey, John Heard and Mayim Bialik.
