Our Score
Director Ted Kotcheff and writer Robert Klane - the guys who brought us Weekend at Bernie's - smite viewers once again with this equally terrible "comedy", which drove a stake into the heart of Tom Selleck's career. (That stake remained firmly lodged for five painful years, and was only removed by his hilarious performance in 1997's In and Out.) The ex-Magnum star plays Jon, a successful broker whose world falls apart when he is investigated for insider trading and has his bank accounts frozen. It couldn't come at a worse time: his mother needs medical care, while senile old Dad (Don Ameche) makes them both homeless when he accidentally burns the house down. Senility and attempted suicide are used to supposed comic effect as Selleck wanders around in various states of disarray, probably wondering what on earth he did to end up in this dreadful film.
