Review
Our Score
by
Tony Sloman
British director Ken Hughes is one of the more unsung British talents, responsible for, among other films,
The Trials of Oscar Wilde
and
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
. This handsome Shepperton-shot farce, released in the USA as
Arrivederci, Baby!
, is an underrated trifle in his career, offering a bravura role to the terrific Tony Curtis, as a charming Bluebeard, and some plum lines and opportunities for grimacing to the irascible Lionel Jeffries. Tastelessness abounds, but for once it's deliberate, and the Panavision and Technicolor photography is extremely glossy, as befits this type of 1960s romp.
