Following the death of her father, beautiful southern belle Yvonne De Carlo is not only left without any money, but also unearths the startling fact that her mother was a slave. As a result she's sold as a slave to millionaire Clark Gable, whose mistress she becomes. Directed by Raoul Walsh, who must have been forced to do it, and with Sidney Poitier in a leading role as a slave, this utter tosh strains credibility to the limit and has little to recommend it other than De Carlo's glamour and the occasional disconcerting echo of better pre-American Civil War epics.

A former heiress is sold into slavery and falls for her master while the American Civil War rages around them - but marauding Union troops threaten their happiness just as love begins to blossom. Romantic period drama, starring Clark Gable, Sidney Poitier, Yvonne DeCarlo and Rex Reason.
