Our Score
This is tough stuff, as Brian Donlevy's wife and lover plan on getting rid of him, but it's not quite as easy as it seems. Director Arthur Lubin took time off from working with talking mules (the Francis series) and as with the later Footsteps in the Fog proved he could grind out a good melodrama. There's a terrific supporting cast, including Charles Coburn, Anna May Wong and Mae Marsh, but you'll find yourself rooting for Donlevy, so often cast as the heavy earlier in his career. It's a clever B-movie that doesn't quite make it as an A-feature, but has a good deal more class and style than most of its kind.

A woman arranges for her lover to kill her husband, but the plan goes awry - her accomplice is killed, the police discover her guilt and, unbeknownst to all concerned, the victim is still alive. However, when he makes his presence known to save his spouse from execution, he too ends up accused of murder. Drama, starring Brian Donlevy and Ella Raines.
