Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Jean-Claude Van Damme comes unstuck when he attempts to show his more sensitive side, as in this soft-centred action thriller. He plays a convict on the run who holes up with a young widow (Rosanna Arquette) and her children (who include one of the Culkin clan, Kieran). Bad guy Joss Ackland is trying to evict Arquette from her land, but Van Damme comes to her rescue. Director Robert Harmon seems to have been aiming for some sort of modern-day Shane, but Van Damme is no Alan Ladd and, to make matters worse, the fighting sequences are a letdown. Joe Eszterhas (Showgirls, Basic Instinct) had a hand in the script.
