Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Despite its title and the combustible chemistry of its two leads (Kris Kristofferson and Treat Williams as US border patrolmen), this is rather a damp squib with a final revelation route-mapped all too obviously. The guards, who fear replacement by computer techology, find a jeep buried in the desert complete with a skeleton and a lot of loot. They start making enquiries about where the cash came from, before keeping the money; soon both the baddies and the FBI (or are they one and the same?) are on their trail. There's a fascinatingly eerie sense of location, but the characters are as chaotic as the narrative, and the buddy-buddy theme means the girls hardly get a look-in.
