Time Flies

Time Flies

Walter Forde (1944)

Our Score
The time-travel comedy was big in Britain in 1944, for not only did ITMA radio series star Tommy Handley take this trip to Elizabethan England, but Tommy Trinder also ventured back to ancient Rome in Fiddlers Three. This is easily the superior picture, with Handley's regular radio writer Ted Kavanagh as part of the team serving up a generous portion of period gags, such as Handley pipping Sir Walter Raleigh to tobacco and a spot of cloak laying, and George Moon singing a music-hall song at the Globe. Some of the jokes have travelled less well and it falls flat in places, but it's a thoroughly entertaining romp.
