Our Score
Hammer's first sequel to The Curse of Frankenstein has the baron (Peter Cushing) rescued from execution, changing his name to Dr Stein and continuing his body-part experiments in a charity hospital. The usual first-rate performances, excellent production values and gothic atmosphere are permeated by a macabre sense of humour in this superior spine-chiller that's crisply directed, as ever, by studio regular Terence Fisher. The unexpectedly light-hearted moments neatly counterpoint the more horrific elements, including hints of cannibalism.

The scientist manages to escape execution for his twisted experiments and goes into hiding in a hospital for the poor. He is soon at work creating a new monster in which he implants the brain of his deceased assistant. However, his new creation proves impossible to control. Hammer horror, starring Peter Cushing, Francis Matthews and Lionel Jeffries.
