Our Score
Savage yet brilliant, this minor masterpiece will inevitably be compared to the similar Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, made around the same time. In police custody, serial killer Daniel Ray Hawkins (extremely well-played by Robert A Burns) begins a series of confessions about his life and crimes. The flaw in this narrative device (we know Hawkins will eventually be caught) is outweighed by the movie's virtues, which include gritty location shooting that lends a kind of cinéma vérité feel to the proceedings. Director Mark Blair makes each murder horrifying to watch, conveying the pain and struggle of the victims, yet somehow suggesting more violence than is actually seen.
