Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

As dated as flared trousers, this slice of flower-power permissiveness alarmed some at the time because of promised revelations, but disappointed others because romance got in the way. Natalie Wood, Robert Culp, Elliott Gould and Dyan Cannon make up the two Californian couples who go in for group therapy and confessions to extramarital sex. The result is too many words and too little action courtesy of director Paul Mazursky (who was Oscar-nominated for the screenplay along with co-writer Larry Tucker). There's an intimidating sentimentality, too, but the film was still an important landmark in its day, and remains a fascinating time capsule of the loose and loving 1960s.
