Someone at the Door

Someone at the Door

Herbert Brenon (1936)

Our Score
This is one of those rare instances when the remake is superior to the original, although, in this case, that's not saying much, as the 1950 version of Campbell and Dorothy Christie's old theatrical chestnut wasn't very good either. Contrived only goes part way to describing this creaky thriller, in which a reporter desperate for a scoop stumbles across a real mystery while staging a fake murder. Noah Beery Sr and Edward Chapman add a touch of spice as jewel thieves, but it's Billy Milton and Aileen Marson who are highly resistible as the hack and his accomplice sister.
