Review

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Screenwriter TEB Clarke was the brains behind many of the Ealing comedies. Yet he also had a well-developed social conscience, as he proves in this unconvincing racing drama that reunited him with Blue Lamp director Basil Dearden. As the disgraced jockey who saves his protégé from a bribes scandal, Bill Owen has one of his meatiest big-screen roles. However, this is a workmanlike film, with some suitably downbeat photography from Otto Heller and neat cameos from Sid James and Wilfrid Hyde White.
