Review

Our Score
Writer/director Julian Henriques's feature debut has in its favour an undeniable energy and a gutsy performance from Anjela Lauren Smith, as the mother of two battling against the odds and the indifference of her partner to become a reggae singer. Yet too often the narrative is hijacked by musical interludes, which, with the exception of the final gig, do little to further our understanding of either Smith's tangled personal history or the chauvinism of the record business. It has a Secrets and Lies feel, but there's insufficient dramatic focus.
