Our Score
In this charmless take on the classic fairy tale, flunking schoolboy Jack (Colin Ford) ends up on a supposedly epic mission to pass his Heroics class after swapping his Computer of Wonder (COW, geddit?) for three magic beans. Unfortunately, eye-rollingly lame humour and a dearth of excitement are likely to make the flat and flimsy quest something of an endurance test for even the youngest of viewers, as the wannabe lionheart and his irritating part-human/part-goose companion (strident US comedian Gilbert Gottfried) attempt to retrieve an enchanted harp from a giant's castle. Chloe Grace Moretz and, briefly, Chevy Chase are among the familiar faces trying unsuccessfully to add colour to the plodding and limply pantomimic proceedings, while James Earl Jones wastes his rich tone as the voice of the underwhelming goliath.

Summary

A boy in a fairy-tale kingdom must perform a heroic deed or be kicked out of school, like his father before him. Obtaining a handful of magic beans, he sets off to confront a giant living in the sky and rescue a girl who has been transformed into a harp. Fantasy adventure, with Colin Ford, Chloe Grace Moretz and Christopher Lloyd.
