Our Score
Not even a cast of fresh-faced acting hotshots can give flavour to this bland and undistinguished teen sporting romance. A tried and tested formula, the film applies all the usual strength-through-adversity clichés, and wraps them up in a poor-boy-meets-rich-girl subplot. Freddie Prinze Jr plays the quick-tempered lawn boy given a shot at major league baseball success, only to jeopardise his chances by falling for Jessica Biel, daughter of one of his rich clients. Of course, this being Hollywood schmaltz, a fairy-tale ending is guaranteed, leading to the obligatory "will he or won't he" climax. Such obvious storytelling may charm the under 18s, who no doubt will also love the fruity language and saucy innuendo, but for anyone older, it's just a cute-looking bore.

A baseball player is thrilled to land a place on a local team, but is forced to battle prejudice from his fellow players thanks to his background - and the situation only becomes worse when he starts dating a girl from a wealthy family. Comedy drama, starring Freddie Prinze Jnr, Matthew Lillard, Jessica Biel, Fred Ward and Brittany Murphy.
