Tales That Witness Madness

Tales That Witness Madness

Freddie Francis (1973)

Our Score
This portmanteau of four horror stories was mysteriously shelved for years, eventually turning up on television in the 1980s. Director Freddie Francis had previously done better examples of the genre, notably Tales from the Crypt and Torture Garden. Here the most effective segments are the first (although derivative of Ray Bradbury's story The Veldt) and the last (quite gruesome). An interesting cast includes Kim Novak (in a part intended for Rita Hayworth), Jack Hawkins (in his final film) and Joan Collins, seen rather startlingly doing the vacuuming.

A psychiatrist recounts four disturbing cases to a colleague, from a boy with an imaginary tiger to a cannibal luau organised by a literary agent. Director Freddie Francis's horror anthology, starring Donald Pleasence, Jack Hawkins and Kim Novak.
