Summary

A world-weary cop tries to solve a spate of murders by teaming up with a clone of the killer he is searching for - but comes to suspect he cannot trust the double any more than the original. Thriller, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme in a dual role alongside Michael Rooker and Catherine Dent.

Review

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Jean-Claude Van Damme gets a dual role, again, as serial killer and his confused clone in this otherwise perfunctory thriller. While it has the makings of a departure for the "Muscles from Brussels", with his sympathetic, naive good guy used and abused by both his villainous "brother" and grizzled cop Michael Rooker, his Rain Man-style awkwardness sits uncomfortably with his kick-boxing prowess (learned through a gymnastics video). Director Ringo Lam (who teamed with Van Damme on the equally forgettable Maximum Risk) puts his stunt men through some punishing set pieces, and if you can overlook some massive leaps of logic - like how the cloned Jean-Claude has memories of murders, but not of life experiences - this is a passable action workout.
