An expensive, ridiculous and tediously overstretched British-made romantic drama, produced and directed by Herbert Wilcox, in which Anna Neagle, a duke's granddaughter, switches her affections from Rex Harrison's army major to Dean Jagger's American air-force sergeant. It's unbelievable that the dull Jagger could oust the charismatic Rex, or that Rex would be such a generous loser - but it's typical of the way the entire production panders to the American market, where it played as
A Yank in London
. The only striking moment in the trite story is the outcome of Harrison's bid to become a Member of Parliament, which seems to predict Labour's sweeping general election victory of 1945.
Summary
A duke's daughter falls for an American Air Force sergeant posted to London during the Second World War. Romantic drama, starring Anna Neagle, Dean Jagger and Rex Harrison.
