Paint by Murder

In this low-key mystery thriller, determined but oddly guileless gallery assistant Kate (Alexxis Lemire) is tasked with examining a collection of paintings inherited by hunky artist Daniel (Jordi Vilasuso). Among these works is one that appears to be by a Dutch old master. With alarm bells ringing, Kate finds herself submerged in a murky and murderous conspiracy to defraud an auction house, all while attempting to save her boss's business from bankruptcy. This is something of a B-movie melodrama that nonetheless keeps you guessing to the end. Despite an unconvincing Vermeer knock-off and some occasionally cartoonish dialogue, the film certainly holds our interest right up to the nicely twisted finale.
