This B-movie was based on a BBC TV serial by Francis Durbridge, the prolific crime novelist and creator of gentleman detective Paul Temple. Robert Beatty whose greatest hour was to munch a sandwich in
2001: a Space Odyssey
(he played Halvorsen) investigates the mysterious death of his brother, a trail that leads to a smuggling ring and another sibling, played by William Sylvester whose greatest hour, as Dr Heywood Floyd, was to share that sandwich. Predictable and only moderately gripping, this was the third picture to be directed by Guy Green, who won an Oscar for his camerawork on David Lean's
Great Expectations
ten years earlier.
