While keeping a low profile after his defeat by Ip Man, Cheung Tin Chi gets into trouble after getting in a fight with a powerful foreigner.
A defeated martial arts master renounces his fighting ways in this lively spin-off from the Donnie Yen Ip Man series. Max Zhang returns as Cheung Tin Chi, who is now living the simple life of a grocer with his adorable son in 1960s Hong Kong. However, one good deed finds him caught up in a tit-for-tat spat with Kevin Cheng's drug-peddling hoodlum, and it's not long before the fists and feet are once more flying. Zhang is a rather subdued presence when he's not dispatching bad guys, but there are choice roles for Michelle Yeoh as a gang boss trying to go legit, hulking Dave Bautista as a businessman with ties to the corrupt British police chief, plus a cameo from Tony Jaa as a shadowy assassin. The plentiful fight scenes are executed with precision and the occasional "wire-fu" flourish by legendary action director Yuen Wo-Ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), with a showdown between gun and wing-chun fist among the more inventive touches.
