Brittany Runs a Marathon

This archetypal indie film stars comedy actress and improv specialist Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street) as Brittany. A slobbish, plump, late-20s New Yorker, Brittany gets a wake-up call when her doctor advises her to lose some weight, and cash-conscious Brittany reckons running is the cheapest way to shed those pounds. But is her goal of entering the New York Marathon a realistic one when she can't run a block without getting out of puff? Self-centred Brittany isn't the most likeable character, but her imperfections add realism to a film that isn't for those who prefer their characters cloaked in capes and spandex. It is perfect, however, for viewers who enjoy slice-of-life films about flawed characters you can't help but cheer on.
