Our Score
A mysterious love triangle and the all-star cast of Liam Neeson, Antonio Banderas and Laura Linney can't save this ponderous romantic thriller from mediocrity. Based on a short story by novelist Bernhard Schlink (The Reader), it follows Cambridge software exec (Neeson) as he uncovers details of an affair between his shoe designer wife (Linney) and her Milanese lover (Banderas). Despite being handsomely shot by director Richard Eyre (Notes on a Scandal), its plot - complete with a rather obvious twist - proves embarrassingly slight, as priggish Neeson befriends and then tricks Banderas's hammy, chess-playing cad. At its heart, it's a familiar story about whether we can ever really know those we love; yet it's executed with so little passion it might as well be about car upholstery.

After his wife's death, a man learns she was having an affair when he discovers provocative photos of her with another man. He resolves to track down her lover and exact his revenge, but when he confronts the man about his misdeeds, he instead strikes up an unlikely friendship, making him question whether he should continue with his vengeful scheme. Drama, starring Liam Neeson, Antonio Banderas, Laura Linney and Romola Garai.
