Braven

Logger Jason Momoa and his father find themselves in a wilderness stand-off with drug dealers in this tough action thriller. After a first act that establishes the characters, we are thrown into a modestly assembled face-off that always remains the right side of believable. While the dialogue is shaky and certain plot points obvious, the film makes a virtue of its impressive action scenes. Despite being given little to work with, Momoa's star quality shines through, creating an endearing character who even manages a few moments of tenderness amid all the brawling. Garret Dillahunt is diabolical in all the right ways as the lead villain, offering a masterclass in foreboding silence. Braven may not live long in the memory, but this undemanding revenge movie has enough in its arsenal to make for entertaining viewing.
