Our Score
A certain bourgeois self-satisfaction permeates this superficial situation comedy, which is based on Noel Langley's stage farce Little Lambs Eat Ivy. However, such is the precision of Henry Cass's direction and the exuberance of the performances that it's difficult not to be sucked into this frantic world of scatterbrained daughters, disastrous share deals and crooked butlers. Seemingly a door can't open without a fresh crisis breezing in, but Heather Thatcher's ennobled widow takes it all in her stride, unlike Richard Attenborough's nerve-jangled father-to-be. The pace disguises the fact that the humour has dated somewhat, but there's rarely a dull moment.

An impoverished woman struggles to control her four daughters and their assorted partners. Comedy adapted from a stage play, starring Richard Attenborough, Heather Thatcher and Susan Stephen.
