Our Score
In its present version, this Hammer swashbuckler is a colourful, action-packed adventure for undemanding kids. Kerwin Mathews, all-American hero in several other British films in the 1960s, is a Huguenot who falls into the clutches of pirate king Christopher Lee, a buccaneer complete with eye-patch and hook. Lee attempts to use Mathews in a dastardly plan to steal Huguenot riches. There are wenches and scurvy knaves galore, but only tantalising vestiges of the X-rated bloodbath intended, as the film was reduced to U certificate derring-do for the school holidays after long sessions at the censor's office.

Summary

Boisterous buccaneers invade a quiet French religious settlement in search of treasure, spreading terror among the humble locals with their hell-raising antics. Hammer swashbuckler, with Christopher Lee, Oliver Reed and Andrew Keir.
