Our Score
This New Mexico-set western wasn't one of the more interesting - or successful - vehicles for the stellar partnership of Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Tracy is the steely cattle rancher who becomes increasingly ruthless in his efforts to protect his livelihood from the influx of homesteaders. Hepburn is his wife, who finds herself driven into the arms of the more liberal-minded attorney Melvyn Douglas. Her subsequent pregnancy creates further complications. Despite the high-powered cast, director Elia Kazan fails to engender interest in anyone's plight or in the story itself.

Summary

Western in which a cattle baron becomes increasingly ruthless in his efforts to drive hundreds of homesteaders off his land. The solid cast includes Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, Melvyn Douglas and Robert Walker.
