Our Score
Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton head a starry cast in this comedy remake of a 2006 French film that goes down like an old vol-au-vent - puffed up, stale and unsatisfying. Years after their divorce, ex-partners De Niro and Keaton are forced to play house to mollify the strictly religious mother of their adopted son (Ben Barnes) as the family gathers to see him marry a vapid Amanda Seyfried. Writer/director Justin Zackham tries desperately to inject some colour into the proceedings with a plush, bohemian set-up that finds Susan Sarandon as De Niro's live-in lover (only not for the wedding), Topher Grace as the virginal brother of the groom, Katherine Heigl as the brassy big sister and Robin Williams as a cheeky vicar. Unfortunately, Zackham's idea of funny is having senior citizens behave like kids (echoing the theme of his script for The Bucket List), and gags that rely on mix-ups that are so drawn-out and contrived, they clang as loudly as church bells.

Summary

A divorced couple are reunited when their adopted son announces he is getting married. However, when the groom's natural mother unexpectedly announces she is coming to the wedding, the adoptive parents are forced to pretend they are still together to avoid offending her traditional attitudes. Comedy, with Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl, Susan Sarandon and Robin Williams.
