Our Score
The forest strikes back in this unsubtle slapstick comedy, as cold-hearted property developer Brendan Fraser incurs the wrath of woodland critters with his plans to build a plush new housing complex on an unspoiled green-belt area of Oregon. Cue all manner of cute and cuddly creatures hijacking bulldozers, sabotaging building sites and attacking hapless construction workers to help preserve their way of life. Director Roger Kumble's mix of live action and CGI pays homage to the cartoon shenanigans of Disney's rascally chipmunks Chip 'n' Dale, but the eco-friendly heart of the movie is unfortunately clumsy, and there's an even more laborious message about the importance of family and roots. Fraser's lantern-jawed mugging becomes irritating all too soon, although younger viewers may get a kick out of the ingenious antics of skunks, raccoons and grizzly bears as they get the better of numbskull humans.
