Our Score
Eric Portman is on fine form in this chilling thriller as the descendant of a public hangman who strangles young women in London's open spaces, creating a tragic figure of a man who can't help his inherited impulses. Roland Culver is a skilful adversary as the Scotland Yard inspector who slowly and patiently closes in on his man. Co-written by Emeric Pressburger and directed by Lawrence Huntington, it makes superb use of London backgrounds and has a memorable climax near the Serpentine in Hyde Park, which has the cold grip of nightmare about it.

A man begins murdering women in a misguided bid to win his hangman father's approval, only to find himself struggling against an urge to kill the girl of his dreams. Crime drama, starring Eric Portman, Dulcie Gray, Derek Farr and Roland Culver.
