Our Score
The original 1950 marriage-go-round comedy starring Spencer Tracy is given an amiable 1990s work-out here by the Baby Boom and Private Benjamin husband-and-wife team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers. Steve Martin shines as usual, playing the Tracy role of the anxious parent who can't find a single thing to like about his daughter's perfect fiancé, while continually counting the ceremony costs. Watch for his Tom Jones impersonation: it's a scream! Diane Keaton gives him sparkling back-up as the uncomplaining wife, but it's the unbridled Martin Short who steals the entire movie in a fluffy turn as a camp wedding organiser.

Summary

A doting dad is taken aback when his daughter announces she is getting married, and is thrown into a whirlwind of increasingly complicated wedding plans, a struggle to live up to the expectations of his wealthy future in-laws and the sad realisation that his little girl has grown up. Remake of the 1950s comedy, with Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams and Martin Short.
