Our Score
This is a routine 20th Century-Fox feature from Richard Fleischer, the skilled director of such classics as The Vikings and Compulsion. The plot favours the 1950s psychological approach, as rich southern recruit Robert Wagner suffers in combat under psychotic bully Broderick Crawford, but the structure is messy and confused, and Wagner's brilliantined hairstyle is well out of the Second World War period. Never mind: pert Terry Moore is there to to provide some distraction, the same Moore who achieved notoriety when she published a memoir detailing her secret marriage to Howard Hughes.
